Thư của Luật Sư Nguyễn Văn Đài và Bác Sĩ Phạm hồng Sơn gởi cộng đồng quốc tế về tình trạng sau APEC

Hanoi, Nov 21st, 2006

Dear Sir/Madam

This is an update of the condition of Vietnamese dissidents during and after APEC Summit in Hanoi.

Dr. Pham Hong Son has just informed me that  last night that the  police have arrested his friend, Mr. Tran Quoc Trung came to visit Son’s family.  The police released him 10.30am this morning.  The police threaten Son that they will ask the HIV infected persons and gangsters to attack Son’s house and throw the dirty things to his house so that Son and his family can not stay there.

As for me, I am still in a very difficult situation.  Security officers have set up a check-point in a front of my house.  Even though the APEC Summit was over since Sunday, November 19,  they still do not allow me going to work today Tuesday 21, 2006.   The government has placed two sign boards on the way to my house which says: restricted area no passing  and no camera allowed.   The reason for the signs, according to the police, is their concern of security problem.  In fact, the government has used the security pretext to legitimize its oppressive measures against the dissidents during the APEC Summit.  They terrorize the dissidents in the name of security concern for APEC. I do not know how long they would  keep me under house arrest.

As you may be aware, my ADSL internet service, and cell phone service have been cut off.  WE are living under constant threats of harm on our family and ourselves by the police.

Please continue to pray for us.  We believe the day of judgment is coming nearer and nearer for “them”

In the meantime, we urgent call the help from you.

Best Regards,

Lawyer Nguyen Van Dai and doctor Pham Hong Son
